So, what up? Not too much discourse about this
one. I like Erik but I won't lay the lumber.
He may even get bet up more as the day goes on.
I think we see an action fight with Morales'
experience and skills making the difference.
Spoke to a guy from Austin, Tx. yesterday who
knows chavez for 10 years. Told me about his background; about his prison stints and such.
It's amazing to me how some folks feel a prison
background will make a guy a better boxer. It
will toughen a man up surely, but make him a
winner versus a guy like Morales? I think maybe
it don't go the distance. Supposedly Chavez ain't hard to find and brings it to his opponent. Brawl city poosibly.

I laid 7 dimes a month ago at -300 to win $2300 and some change. This is a big play for me that I really like. Morales is a stud.

i played morales myself.....did something i almost never do.....laying 3-1.....kind of sorry i did it now....

morales looked alot more "fleshed out" vs espadas at jr lightweight.....i just looked at the weigh-in pictures and he looked to me like he used to look at featherweight....emaciated...

we`ll see...we have much the better fighter....no doubt...chavez will come forward....he has to it`s the only thing he can do....these types of pressure fighters have given morales trouble in the past,though.......

still, unless chavez is alot stronger than morales physically,i don`t expect the wide looping right hands to find the mark very often...morales needs to use the jab and his large repertoire of hooks, uppercuts and straight shots to make chavez pay to get inside...

at least one bookmaker sees this as morales all the way...

El Terrible to Crush the Matador

Bookmaker Victor Chandler expects Erik "El Terrible" Morales to make a successful step up to super featherweight when he takes on tough WBC champion Jesus Chavez on Saturday night.

"Chavez is very game fighter, as proved by his recent win against tough Thai champion Sirimongkol Singamanasak, but Morales is in the top three pound-for-pound fighters in the world in my estimation," said the firm's boxing man Colm Andrew.

"Because he is a tall guy for a featherweight I can't see the move up to super being a problem for Morales. In fact, we might even see him at his best ever on Saturday."

Twenty-seven-year-old Morales' only defeat in 46 bouts, that includes 36 KOs, came at the hands of Marco Antonio Barrera in June 2002.

Thirty-one-year-old Chavez, known as "El Matador," also boasts a quality record with two defeats in 42 fights, 28 of his wins have come by way of knockout.

"It's Chavez's first defense and I expect it to be his last," added Andrew.

Chandler make Morales 1/5 to beat his fellow Mexican, Chavez is 100/30, with the draw priced at 25/1.

Other boxing prices the firm are quoting include the next week's WBO super featherweight title between Joel Casamayor and Diego Corrales.

Chandler make Casamayor 4/6 to beat 6/5 Corrales. The draw is rated a 25/1 chance.

I agree...

MORALES DID NOT LOOK GOOD AT THE WEIGH-IN. HE LOOKED SICKLY. This is very nerve racking. Chavez on the other hand looks STRONG. VERY STRONG.

ugh!

If Almly and Sphinc are down, that's enough for me to throw some fun $$$ on morales, since I will be watching. Count me in on Morales (-370 at Intertops)

I have Chavez by decision for +800. But after watching Chavez last fight against the thai, I dont believe it is likely to happen.
Chavez cant stop Morales and after he throws his right wide hook he is standing ridicously of balance. Combine this with Morales right hand and Chavez is in serious trouble.
What about hatching with Chavez decision ?
KO Morales is at +170 and Morales decision at around +150 at 5dimes.
By the way Morales has a history of looking realy bad at weigh ins.
Coto Sosa fight Cotto dec is very interesting at +130.
pinnacle has props for both fights.
Sosa at +1750 for dec or Ko.

i`ll ride it out with morales.....could take an ugly hit if he folds....chavez is strong....i`m banking that the extra weight helps morales....he was looking drained at feather....

keeping my fingers crossed...that a future hall of famer does his job vs the lesser guy....a solid guy...but not on morales` level....

smack the piss outta me the next time i lay 3-1...

Morales always looks sick at the weigh in.. I wouldnt worry about that. I think he will pick this guy apart tonight.

Chavez fighting with his left hand only and gives Morales all he can handle.

i`m very thankful for chavez` bum shoulder......if he`d been a 2 handed fighter for 12 full rounds,i may have been crying the blues tonight....

i really think that all the wars have caught up with morales...he has had some trouble sustaining down the stretch(to be fair, the pace was very fast)....but look at who he`s fought..

i think he`ll be in trouble vs a casamayor or a corrales....he`ll be dangerous early....but,i really don`t think he should be favored over either....

he was hurt fairly significantly by wild right hands in the first....

i don`t see him fighting past age 30......to much wear and tear....the bigger guys will put to much hurt on him.....

a great fighter....imo,at 27,his best days are behind him...no crime in that...amazing that he`s only 27,considering what he`s accomplished

I was looking for the thread where a couple of guys said that this was fight of the year material and I said no. I wanted to get on here and say I was wrong about the fight and about Chavez, and you guys were right. It was as close as I've ever seen to Morales getting knocked out in round 1. He was seriously hurt for a second. For that one second he was ready to fall.

I thought the scoring in this fight was BS but I guess I'll watch it again. I won a couple grand tonight but I was wrong about how I thought this fight would go. I thought this fight was really close - but I'll check it out again.

Jesus, that wasnt the Chavez who I saw fight Mayweather. Anyway, my heart was in my throat in the 1st - seeing that 7G's go. But thats the game right? After round 5 or 6 I thought Chavez came on. But I'll be honest. Saturday nights I drink alot when I watch these fights.
So to get a clear line on them I gotta watch em a second time.

Anyway, I think Morales needs to take his ass back down to 126 even though I know he kills himself to make weight. His punch dosent appear to carry the weight that it normally does at 130.

Spinch, you play it tight and I respect that. But youve been kind of riding the fence here for the last few months. Sugar and Winky - whats the deal?
